QUERY: I have been looking for a couple of months for the parents of Washington Runnels/Reynolds, born 5 March 1800 in Winslow, Maine. He married 19 October 1821 in Albion, Maine to Ann Stevens born 5 January 1797, Albion, Maine. Ann died 30 August 1869, Albion and Washington died 17 August 1867 in Albion, Main. Some of Robert Reynolds’ line ended up in Winslow, Main; but I also found another line who lived there. Looking through 50 or 60 Reynolds Family Association papers, I didn’t find their line It starts with;

  1. Sergeant Samuel Runnels born 1674 in Nova Scotia of Scotch origin. From there he moved to Bradford, Massachusetts and married Abigail Middleton. They had 8 Children.
  2. The line goes to Ebenezer and Abigail Sallis. Ebenezer was born 20 November 1726, Bradford.
  3. Benjamin, born 31 Mar 1748, Haverill, Massachusetts (the oldest son) who went to Pownalboro, Maine and then to Augusta – He was a Revolutionary soldier in 1778, moved to Waterville and died across the river in Winslow 22 June 1802. He married Hepsibah Bradley 1768 and married (2) Sarah Whidden 12 March 1791.
I think one of Benjamin’s sons is probably the father to Washington.
  • James born June 1769
  • John born 19 Nov 1771 (I found John’s children all documented with no Washington)
  • Benjamin, Jr. born April 1773 married Lydia Priest
  • Stephen born February 1775 married Lucy Priest
  • David born 5 October 1783
If this Runnels/Reynolds line is documented in the Association records, I though this could be quickly found, but if it isn’t, it may be a new line. So they I’ll go to the state library and do some hunting.
Thanks for all your trouble.

QUERY: Does anyone have any information on William Reynolds b. ca 1757 poss. in Virginia, FTDNA Kit# 723838. I did a DNA test with a Whitlock first cousin for my g-g-g-grandfather Lancelot (Lott) Whitlock and all of his matches are to the Reynolds line and not one Whitlock match. Many of the close matches are to the Archelaus Reynolds line, but the closest one to date is to the above mentioned William Whitlock. There is a 89.79% chance of a match in 4 generations and a 98.96% chance of a match in 8 generations. I would really appreciate any information on this William Reynolds. I have been stuck on Lancelot Whitlocks parents for 30 years.

QUERY: David Reynolds, enlisted in Captain Ely's Regiment in Lyme, Connecticut in April 1777. He was taken prisoner at Tarrytown and escaped in Lubec, Maine. He later returned to Maine with his land grant to settle in Washington County and marry Rebecca Cox. He died 31 March 1832 in Columbia, Maine. In his pension papers, a letter from Eliphalet Reynolds - whom enlisted at the same time and place and served with him - states that Eliphalet "knew David from infancy" and later says "he was a brother". I'm not assuming that Eliphalet and David were actual brothers, but it is a possibility. Both went to Washington County and settled in towns near each other.

In the Annuals report of 1923, David and Eliphalet are mentioned and it is suggested they were brothers - and somehow related to a Samuel Reynolds. In the history of John Reynolds & Sarah Backus, it suggests they are children of a brother of John Sr. - whose son John Jr was killed by indians in 1675.

I have searched for years to figure out where this David fit in/who his parents are. I did have him as a child of Martha Tibbet and Joseph Reynolds for a bit - but now I'm not so sure that's the case. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas of where to look, please let me know?

QUERY: In doing research for application to the Daughters of the American Revolution documentation of sources is required. I need documentation to verify that Margaret "Peggy" GIVENS JOHNSTON was the daughter of Isiah GIVENS and Elizabeth WEBB. They were married 15 May 1797 and Margaret was born 1802 in Giles County, VA. Unfortunately, those records have been lost at the Giles County Courthouse. Do you have a resource that can verify this information? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

QUERY: My WHITLOCK FTDNA test shows a strong connection to the Archelaus Woody REYNOLDS line. In looking at the census records, I have some questions. I have seen no records of any legal marriages for him, but it is believed that he married Sarah "Sallie" Miller and they had three children after 1800. In the 1800 Peneleton, SC census, he is shown with 2 males under 10, two females under 10 and a female 26-44. Who are these people? In 1810 Buncombe NC census, he is shown with 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 8 females under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 16-25 and 1 female (probably wife Sarah) 26-44 It suggests there there was a death in the family leaving several children. There is no record of his marriage to Mary ADAMS but they have several children who have the surname ADAMS, so I assume that they never married. I am wondering if the four children in 1800 could also be out-of-wedlock. It is possible that my g-g-g-grandfather Lancelot "Lot" Whitlock b. abt 1792 - d. 1864 could be one of the males under 10 in 1800. If anyone has any information about this, I would really appreciate their sharing it.

QUERY: My ggrandfather was James Lee Reynolds thru Dee Reynolds, and Ambers Lee Reynolds. Not sure of A Lee Reynolds father's name. Documents have been found with Joseph or Joshua M Reynolds. But basically no verifiable proof can I find to further than Ambers Lee or Amber Lee. Supposedly this Joseph or Joshua Reynolds went by Tinker and was married to Minnie Chambers. Once again no proof. They lived in Alabama and later moved to East Texas.

QUERY: Looking for a John Reynolds b. abt 1827 in Ireland, immigrated over to the U.S. in 1854 (according to census). Married a Bridget or Brigget (date unknown - possibly Ireland). Census records from 1870, 1880, 1890 and 1900 list them living in Marshall, Clark Co., Illinois. One of their children is Thomas F. Reynolds, born 1859 died 1926 and my second great-grandfather. Naturally, with such common names, it is hard for me to track down the accurate John Reynolds that I am looking for. Hoping someone has more information that can lead me in the right direction.
